This information was taken from New River Gorge Adventure Guide website. According to it the stone was carved by a man by the name of George Johnson. He was born in VA in 1892 and moved to West Virginia when he was 9. Its not known what year the stone was carved or how long it took. It is my understanding the family still owns the land surrounding the stone. Feel free to check out that link and read some more about George Johnson.
Its neat finding out about the history and the story of places.
On up the trail from the Face was a really neat Waterfall that was frozen in parts. It made for some neat pictures. Enjoy!
It's still a little creepy! ...but, I love the story.
