Geodog Day & FitDog Friday!

Hey everyone.  It's GEODOG DAY!!!

And FitDog Friday!

Today Teach and I decided to kill two birds with one stone, taking part in GeoDog Day and FitDog Friday.  I knew there was a geocache one of our favorite trails at Little Beaver, "Woody Chair" (GC14CV0). We had done several previous cache finds last week to prepare for Geodog day that was being hosted by our friends Gizmo and Finn & Charley Too!

I knew we needed a good hike in this week so decided to make this cache longer by taking the trail all the way out the creek and back around.  By the time we got to where the cache was Teach was tired enough he didn't care that we had to stand around and walk back and forth trying to find it.  The previous ones we've went in search for he got a little irritated by not being on a mission down the trail.  Today he was happy to stand and pose with the "finds".

Also note that this was the first one we've done without Randy.  I wasn't sure about handling the GPS (my phone) and trying to find it.  But I proudly admit I got it within 6' of the cache when before the closest we could get it was about 10'-20'.  Go Team Teach!!

I think this cache was appropriately named, don't ya think??  They called it the Woody Chair and it does look like a chair ... good job!!

Here are pictures of us finding it and signing the log to get create for it.  To date this is our 7th find.  Randy and I did a few last week without Teach on our way back from the fair (shhhh ... don't tell him!).

After all that work taking a dip in the creek to cool off was just what Teach needed.

And you can see him doing his whole nose dunk to get a drink ... LOL!!!

If you look close you can see the dirt on the white legs!  He had fun.

I do enjoy going geocaching but I think I like the ones that require more hiking to get to.  And I know Teach does as well!!!

Fitdog Friday: Geocaching Adventures (and 100th post!!)

After our friends Gizmo and Finn & Charley Too posted about the fun activity geocaching we decided we needed to give this a try.  We logged onto geocaching.com to see there were TONS in our area that were a very short distance away so got registered so we could start having fun!

We took the route of downloading an app onto our Android phone.  Its very similar to the one that Finn talked about for the iPhone.  Very easy to use ... especially for non-geocachers like us.

Our first find was "I've been working on the railroad" (#GC3A336).  This one was actually located on a rail/trail just down the street from where Randy's parents live.  We were over visiting on Sunday so decided to give this one a try since it was close.  Teach, Bo and Molly went with us for this find.

Molly is the little black dog and Bo is behind Randy's legs.

Yay for our first find!!!!  Randy said he felt like Robert Langdon in Dan Brown's books ... LOL!!!  I love Hidden Object games so this is also right up my ally.  

Our 2nd find was earlier this week one evening at Little Beaver State Park where we love to hike at.  Who knew all those times out there that we walk right past several.  For this one I decided we would try for "C.R.R WV Cache" (#GC3HM8P).  This was a tough one for us ... we walked around it forever before finding it.  We learned on this one to go slow to give the GPS time to catch up especially in all the tree cover.  Talk about good exercise as you try to find it!!  It was almost dark so also added to the difficulty level.

We did the 3rd and 4th ones today.  The 3rd was "Airport Road Cache" (#GC284TJ).  This was a neat one and the first where it wasn't on an "actual" trail.  We parked on the side of the road and proceeded to go through the woods right there.  Was a neat little one and super easy to find ... especially for newbies, like ourselves.

And the 4th one today was "The Wedding Cache" (#GC3J4BJ).  This was another tricky one where we walked around it forever before actually finding it.  There was a lot of tree cover and the GPS was having trouble keeping up and getting a good reading.  So we went super slow to let it keep up and find itself.   Thank goodness both of the caches today have been in the shade because it was pretty hot and humid here today.

This has been a great activity for all of us to get involved with.  And it helps keep Teach active.  He always wants to check out what we find.  He is an active dog though so does get kind of aggrivated at the circles we make and standing around we do trying to locate it.  He wants to keep moving on down the trail.  

We tried for another one today but decided it would be better to get it in the winter time ... looked like a snaky area!!  And we don't like snakes.

This was getting us ready for Finn & Gizmo's GeoDog Day next Friday.  

Also I want to add that I learned today that WV is rolling out a Civil War (in WV) Geotrail starting tomorrow.  You can visit the website and it looks like it'll be updated more starting tomorrow.  We love history and the Civil War so will be taking part in some of these around here.  

We love being a FitDog and Geocaching is another way to get Fit and have fun!!  **side note** this is our 100th post ... WOOHOO!!!  Can't believe we've actually posted that many times.
