Tasty Tuesday: Our First Review, Betsy Farms Treats

A few weeks we had Betsy Farms contact us to do our first official review of some treats.  I knew the boys would be ALL over this one.  The treats arrived while we were on vacation so its taken us a little while to get the review done.

What I liked about this company is the treats are made in America, are free of wheat and artificial preservatives and flavors.

The company sent us two types to try, the Jerky Infusions and the Creamy and Crunchy Peanut Butter.  The Crunchy treats were a great size for training and the dogs loved crunchy them.    Below are some pictures and they will let you see what the real taste testers thought.

Creamy and Crunchy

Jerky Infusions

Teach doing his Lassie Wave for the treat
Roxy was visiting so got to take part in the testing too

Tucker couldn't wait to get them off his paws

Roxy couldn't wait to dig in
The boys (and Roxy) give these treats 2 paws up!!  And I give them a thumbs up as well.

I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are those of my dogs! We received the product at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

Throwback Thursday: Roxy-Style

We've had a lot of Teach these days (the A to Z Challenge) so I thought I would let him take a step back out of the limelight and let Roxy show off her puppy pictures.  These were taken shortly after we brought her home in August of 2006.

Mia was always so good to play with her!
And Mia was good to share couch space.

Monday Mischief: Short fun at New River Gorge Visitor Center

Roxy was our house guest this weekend while my parents were out of town.  So I had to come up with something fun to do (even though she would rather not).  Teach has been doing great on his foot, but I still didn't want to over do it with him.  But the weather was so nice I knew I wanted to get out and at least take some pictures of them.

I had never taken Teach to the visitor center at New River Gorge National Park in Fayetteville.  We have hiked all over the Gorge, but never gone to the touristy overlook.  One reason is because its normally really crowded and there isn't really any hiking to be done.  But for a dog that I'm still restricting activities on that will be perfect.

This is what it looks like from the main overlook.  This picture is from Wikipedia.
The main overlook was closed due to snow/ice so we went to the one right off the parking lot.  In the picture you can't really see the bridge, but you're looking down on it.  But you can see Teach!  Finally ... pictures of Teach back outside.  (we are on the mend)

Roxy loves going but hates her destinations and always just wants back in the vehicle.  After we walked to the overlook (above) she made a beeline back to the vehicle.  So ... to burst her bubble (because that's how I am) we walked over the visitor center (no dogs allowed inside but could walk around outside) and I found this cool wall to take pictures on.  It stepped up so it was easy on Teach to get up there and I just picked Roxy up ... because she was having no part in jumping up there.  Her little eyes were set on where the car was at.

Teach wanted to do more ... he was whining that we were going back to the car.  And Roxy said what we did was way to much!!  HAHA!!  Complete opposites.

Update on Roxy

Last Thursday I posted about Roxy getting attacked by a family member's dog.  She did fine at the vet office and was able to come home Thursday evening.  She ended up with stitches on her face and 4 drains.  Two in her stomach area, one on her neck, and one on her ear.  The vet said that the more they shaved the worse it looked.  Below are pictures ... I warn you she is pitiful looking and its a bit graphic!!  (I call her Franken-Corgi!)

This was after she came home from the vet Thursday evening
Friday morning

Saturday morning
Roxy came over to visit yesterday afternoon while our families had dinner.  With so many drains she can't be left alone long for fear she will mess with them.  With the neck drain she can't wear a cone of shame ... fortunate for her!  I'm happy to report she was her normal self there with the exception of drains and a naked body!  I think she is going to bounce back because Corgis are tough creatures.  She has always had some insecurities and dislike of other dogs so I hope that this episode doesn't make it worse.

My friend over at Dee's Quilt Therapy wrote a fantastic post on Friday about what all has gone on and mainly about pet owner responsibilities.  The main part I would like to share from it is this:

"It's all about responsibility. We have a generation of young people coming up who don't seem to understand the meaning of that word at all. In the case of pet ownership, your not just responsible for your actions, but also your pet's. Taking responsibly for a wrong doing can go a long way to healing the emotional wounds. If the other dog had received bite wounds like Roxy's then we would be calling this a dog fight not an attack and that would be a different story. A growl should not provoke the attack that caused the wounds you see above."

Feel free to head over to Dee's blog and check it out.  Its very well written and gives you a little insight to what happened without having to regurgitate it all.

Teach has a request...

He wants his readers to say a little prayer for his Aunt Roxy (even though she doesn't like him!).

She was attacked by another family member's dog last night.  She is, hopefully, going to be okay, but it was pretty scary, I'm sure, and has several nasty bite wounds.  Teach and I weren't there but got called to come and check her out afterwards.  It wasn't a fair fight at all as the dog that attacked her was a big dog!  And I was told it took my dad and cousin to get this dog off Roxy.  Roxy is a bully to Teach and likes her space but certainly doesn't deserve to get attacked by any dog.

She is on her way to the vet this morning to get checked out and get put on antibiotics to fend off infection. Hope no wounds are deep enough for drains.  So ... keep her in your thoughts today ... Teach and I would appreciate it.

**Update** The vet kept Roxy for stitches and possible drains.

A Corgi Time...

Teach and I will always have a love for Corgis (although they don't share that love for Teach ... LOL!).  We have been following The Daily Corgi for a long time now.  We just wanted to share with you that Teach's lovely Aunt Roxy made the dog of the day over there so you need to go check it out ... Roxy of West Virginia.  Teach says it will make her happy and he is all about pleasing her ... haha!!

Roxy

Teach here, I took over the keyboard to tell the story of my hateful loving Aunt Roxy.  She decided she wanted some page time and snapped asked nicely for me to tell it.  So as not to get in trouble I decided to oblige.

Her story begins almost 7 years ago when my mom (Rebecca), Aunt Susan and Aunt Dee went to a Dave Matthews Concert in OH and stopped on the way to see Roxy.
(and they thought I had big ears ... OMG ... don't tell her though I said that)

They say it was love at first site, but its hard for me to believe.

From the beginning she started to take over.  Here is a picture of her and Mia (I didn't know Mia long) when they first brought her home ... she has the offended look going on, and those ears again.  And Mia didn't look to happy, although they tell me that Mia liked babies (she never liked me!).

I think her being a hill-bully started showing at a young age as well.  They told me they called her the 3-lb terror.

And just to show that Mia did end up playing with her, here is a picture:

I think my mom has always liked dressing up dogs for Halloween because they did it to Roxy as well.

Just not sure she will ever grow into her ears!
Roxy has been going to the beach since she was just 6 months old.  She is still "afraid" of it though!

For the most part Roxy has just been a hateful loving Corgi.  She did get her CGC in 2008 or 2009.  But obedience wasn't her thing.  Guarding the house is her thing from anything coming or going ... she will bark and alert of some sort of danger, whether its danger or not.

Here is a picture of Roxy being made to act nice to me at the beach last year.

I do love my Aunt but I know that the feeling isn't really mutual.  She just "tolerates" me.  And here is how we "play" together.  I was just 6 months old in this video, it was November 2011.  As you'll see she shows lots of teeth, but it doesn't bother me.  My favorite game is "we love Roxy" where I jump around and bark at her and "tag you're it" her.

So for the most part that is her story.  I know I left stuff out of it, and I'll probably get "snapped" at for it ... but I'll just kiss her and think that everything is OK.
